This is my first blog post. I am not the kind of person who dares to act on a new idea the moment it pops into my head; I tend to hesitate sometimes. So first off, I want to talk about why I decided to start writing blogs.
I have held a dream since childhood: simple yet extremely hard to fulfill. Similar to traveling around the world—a dream many people hope to achieve in their lifetime—yet mine is not exactly the same. What I long for is a special lifestyle: traveling across numerous countries around the world, not merely as a tourist, but settling down locally to immerse myself in diverse cultures and make friends with native residents. Besides, I wish to document all the sights and experiences, and share them with people who are equally curious about the world.
Then what preparations do I need for such a journey?
First and foremost, I need to save sufficient money. This stands as the biggest obstacle for most people with similar aspirations, but I firmly believe I can overcome it through persistent hard work. The path to financial stability is clear: get admitted into a top university, keep studying diligently, land a well-paid job and strive steadily at work. I have just embarked on the first stage of this journey, and I believe things will go smoothly as long as I make a good start and avoid indulging myself.
There are plenty of other preparations ahead, among which mastering local languages ranks top priority. At the very least, I need to achieve fluent English speaking skills. I spent quite a long time figuring out my English learning method, and eventually chose an unconventional approach: fully immersing myself in an all-English environment, just like how native speakers pick up their mother tongue. This method may not be the fastest way to score highly in exams like TOEFL or GRE, yet it is undoubtedly the optimal way to speak and think like a native.
Therefore, I switched most things around me to English, including my computer science study materials. I was full of ambition at first, until I realized my English proficiency was far from enough to comprehend lengthy professional textbooks. Being practical, I need to improve my reading ability first. My biggest weakness lies in limited vocabulary. Instead of memorizing words rigidly in dictionary order every day, I choose to learn new words encountered in articles, though my classmates often comment that my word list seems odd, mixing extremely advanced terms and simple kindergarten-level words.
Now let me get back to the original topic—why I launched this blog. The first reason ties closely to my English learning goals: regular English blog writing serves as excellent practice. I feel totally relaxed writing here, with no fear of awkward childish expressions, because hardly anyone knows about this blog and few people will spend time reading such a boring articles, making it a perfect low-pressure practice space for me. Secondly, I have always thought owning a personal website or blog is really appealing. I haven’t purchased a private domain name so far: for one thing, domain fees are relatively high, and it makes little sense to buy one with few visitors; for another, I still haven’t found a domain name that truly fits my taste after long searching.
Lastly, I set a goal to push myself to update consistently. I plan to post a new article every week. I haven’t fixed my writing themes yet; possible contents include interesting daily moments, personal reflections on life, global current affairs, trending topics and news. I am also greatly looking forward to writing about the upcoming World Cup.
I am convinced that this blog will become a precious memory in my life, and I will cherish and stick to this writing journey sincerely.
